Agouti Pest Control Woodworm

Woodworm is the collective name for the family of wood boring insects. These include the infamous Deathwatch Beetle but by far the most common in the UK is the Common Furniture Beetle.

A common misconception is that Woodworm Infestation only affects old properties with antique woodwork, but in fact it can cause damage to any age of property and its furniture.

At larval stage of the insects' life they bore and eat the wood in which they reside, seriously weakening its structure. Larger holes on the surface of the timber are formed when the adult beetle emerges from the timber to mate.

Tell tale signs of Woodworm Infestation include:

  • Small round holes in your woodwork, similar to the holes in a dart board
  • Fine, powdery dust around these holes (this is known as frass)
  • Crumbly edges to boards and joists
  • Adult beetles emerging from the holes or present around the house

As there are a number of species of woodworm, an Agouti pest control technician will choose the precise method of treatment depending on which species is attacking the timber. These will include insecticides, or preservative-insecticide gels and pastes.
